Outlook Tips: Error when performing send/receive with SMTP accounts

If you’re like me, you need the ability to send E-mails using several different aliases. This requires you to configure an SMTP account for each alias that you wish to send messages from. After this configuration has been performed, you may have ran into an error message when performing a send/receive within Outlook. Depending on how many accounts you have configured this error could and can stop your Outlook from functioning all together.

You may avoid these errors all together by removing these SMTP accounts from your Send/Receive ‘All Accounts group’ by following the steps below:

In Outlook 2010, click the Send/Receive tab located just right of the home tab. The Outlook ribbon should now be visible, next click on the small drop down arrow next to Send/Receive and choose Define Send/Receive Groups.

From within the Groups window, ensure that the 'All Groups' group name is highlighted and select Edit. From the Edit screen, locate the SMTP account that you wish to remove from the group. Once you have selected the account, deselect the box labeled "Include the selected account in this group". This will remove the account from the main Send/receive task when performing a Send/Receive All task.

This tip, when performed will eliminate the error messages associated with your SMTP alias accounts when performing a Send/Receive All task and is very helpful when you have multiple E-mail accounts configured.
